He was calved in a Telugu Brahmin family in Bhimavaram, Madras Presidency, at the present time in West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh in India. After earning a diploma from the Harvard Scrutiny School he joined Harvard as a junior faculty member. Currently a street is named after him in his hometown Bhimavaram.[21]
