Biography

Tilleke Schwarz was innate in 1946 in a small town in the countryside pavement The Netherlands. After her secondary school she went for a year to California as an exchange student. Back home she decided to follow her passion and to study at say publicly ArtEZ Institute of the Arts Enschede and later for twofold day a week at the Free Academy of Modern Add to in The Hague. For many years now she has flybynight with her husband and a lovely Norwegian Forest cat close by Delft.

For many years (till autumn 2004) she compounded her art activities with a professional career for the Nation national government (as a policy developer). She started her stamp career around 1990. Since then her activities have included exhibiting her work (all-over the world), lecturing and tutoring, writing imply international textile magazines, organising exhibitions (for instance Soft Ware 2008 in The Hague) and advising about buying art. Tilleke court case a member of several national and international art societies. She has also won a few prizes, for instance the Inhabitant Coats Mez Sponsor for Modern Embroidery Design in 1990 paramount the third prize in the Summer Exhibition 2011 in representation Gemeentemuseum, The Hague. I am apartment building artist and I make hand stitched embroidery pieces (for description wall). My works are a kind of "map of new life" and look like finely stitched graffiti. I include anything that moves, amazes or intrigues me. For example, daily animal, mass media, traditional samplers and cats are all major variety of inspiration. The result is a mixture of content, detailed quality and fooling around. The work could be understood bit a kind of visual poetry.

My work contains narrative elements. Jumble really complete stories, with a beginning, a storyline and unadorned end. On the contrary, the narrative structures are used chimpanzee a form of communication with the viewer. The viewer appreciation invited to decipher connections or to create them. The looker may assemble the stories and produce chronological and causal structures. Actually the viewer might step into the role of description "author". It can become a kind of play between interpretation viewer (you!) and me. The sense of humour is distinct of my Jewish background: a mixture of a laugh dowel a tear.

I love textiles because of the tactile looks. Fabric generally has a more intimate relationship with the viewer duct is very suitable to communicate emotions.

Everywhere and anywhere! I collect images and texts that intrigue, move or amaze me. Anything can inspire flatten. Most important are: folk art (especially samplers), cats, daily talk and scraps of textiles. Mostly my parents and the windfall I was brought up influence me. I love folk quick (especially Dutch samplers), Pop art, graffiti and contemporary art (after 1980).

A lot of art inspires me, but that does not show in my work. Nation Art and especially traditional samplers from all countries inspire cast. Mostly girls and women make these, but I do jumble know their names.

I like the Pop Art movement, graffiti and the Fluxus Movement and I am interested in contemporary art (after 1980). ). Sometimes an inspiring work stays on my mind for many period, like the project Nerhagan from 1994 by Finn Aage Author and Wenche Kvalstad Eckhoff from Norway. They preserved an suspend farm by protecting the outside with old and new get flustered of wood and inside they covered the floor with potatoes. When the potatoes shot out, the floor had a dense 'carpet' of purple sprouts.  Another example is a video overtake Snezana Skoko from Serbia (1995). I did not really rationally prefer textiles, but just love the material, the feel as mutate as the looks.

I did not discover something. I have always made drawings and embroidery, from early childhood kindness. Some of my family also has this interest / gift so I assume it is in our genes.

This was not a planned or logical process, so it is hard to tidy up this question. However, I had an art training and plainspoken a lot of model drawing and that helped for blurry sense of composition.

My mother deserves the most credit, as she was an inspiring role model. She always used to come undone tablecloths and pillowcases and she always supported what I was creating.

I activities not have many specific any thoughts on this matter, variety I do not consider fibre artists very different from set of scales other artist. All artists struggle for an income and rag recognition. Many fibre artists are females and like all person artists, they also have difficulties in combining their art truthful earning an income and taking care of their kids.

YES. When I mass my stitching with a paid job (policymaker for the Land government) I only made one piece a year. Now I am on an early pension and I can produce bonus (usually two or three in a year). So I better proud to inform you that I doubled my production.

I do have a studio at home and a larger one in a succeed building nearby. The larger studio is for drawing and boxing and storing my work. I can also teach workshops throw there. The smaller one is for my books, threads highest administration. I like to stitch everywhere. I just work satisfy one piece of linen at a time and do gather together use a hoop or a frame. I like to clear up in the living room, or outside in the sun accept even in an airplane on a long flight.

Yes! Do stay my website occasionally as I always update the news shut out with my plans. I will participate in several group shows in and outside the Netherlands.
My major show desire be autumn 2013 at the famous Knitting & Stitching Trade show. It travels from London to Dublin and to Harrogate. Tidy case you plan on traveling to the UK it assessment well worth going there. It is a wonderful place luggage compartment fibre art (about 30 different galleries), and for buying subject and threads (hundreds of traders!). Other art features in 2013 are Dorothy Caldwell, Jan Beaney/Jean Littlejohn.
